Horse power

There has been a lot of fuss this week about David Cameron riding a horse. Some say it implies the PM’s relationship with News International was much closer than anyone had previously thought. I am not sure I agree. For Rebekah Brooks to lend Cameron  –  an Old Etonian and Oxfordshire neighbour  – a horse to ride on is not that startling. I believe it’s what rich people do. They lend each other butlers, too, if Downton Abbey is to be believed. But what is strange is that Rebekah Wade lent the PM this particular horse  –  institutionalised, knackered, and traumatised by years of frontline riot defence. Did she not have anything better? Was it a joke? Or was she, somehow, suggesting a similarity between the two?
